Home to Harvard, MIT, and Cambridge, Massachusetts’ Boston area is one of the largest centers for tech jobs on the East Coast. Boston’s strong position in the insurance and financial service industries creates demand for lots of IT workers. Major companies headquartered here include Liberty Mutual, Teradyne, Gillette, and IDG.

Massachusetts is expected to add more that 26,000 IT jobs by 2016, with most of the growth dedicated to software engineering positions. Though the state’s cost of living is among the highest around, salaries are high, and the New England area’s unique assortment of attitudes, accents, and weather patterns helps make up for it.
